It’s been another wild week in American politics. In lieu of a debate we had two some…interesting…town halls, and intensifying nastiness by representatives of both parties. We’ve also seen record voter turnout so far, and if this keeps up; at press time (Tuesday) over 34 million people have voted. This is a wonderful thing, and we hope it’s a record-breaking election in terms of who voted. But we’re also concerned about what’s to follow, and what’s going on right now. “It’s Rigged!” Historically, once a presidential candidate concedes to the victor, those who voted for them may feel disappointed, but will quickly get back to their regular lives. After a lot of back and forth, we decided not to post the 8/22 episode. What began as a conversation about “Defund the Police” (and its various interpretations) exploded into an argument. Hey, politics can get passionate. We get it. What we don’t get – and won’t endorse – is when the ugliness that permeates today’s political scene seeps into our show. Voting. It’s kind of a big deal. For democracy to work, you’ve got to vote. But like everything else in 2020, voting is facing some unique challenges. Is it safe to go out and cast your ballot while “The Rona” rages? Is the country equipped to deal with 140 million+ absentee and mail-in ballots? We haven’t even touched on the issues with the USPS.
